What do whales, bees, giraffes, elephants and coral reefs have in common? The answer is, sadly, that they’re all species in decline. The theme for this Earth Day is Protect our Species, and if you’d like to read more about it, visit https://www.earthday.org/campaigns/endangered-species/.

Earth Day can be an opportunity for children (and adults too!) to learn about nature, and instill a sense of responsibility about protecting the earth. Here are some ways to mark Earth Day 2019.

Enjoy nature – The weather is warmer, so why not get out and enjoy nature at a local park or conservation area?

Read booksHere’s a list of titles that you can read for Earth Day.

Watch documentaries – Check out Planet Earth or another documentary. Here’s a list of suggestions.

Choose your wardrobe – If you’re coming in for tutoring on Earth Day, we encourage our students to wear green or natural fabrics in honour of the occasion.

Happy Earth Day to all!
